“Village BA” tips off harvest season as rural festival opens in Yunyang, Chongqing

On 8 April 2026, the opening ceremony of the “Yunyang Meet · Ping’an Accompany” event was held in Ping’an Town, Yunyang County, Chongqing. This celebration marks the 4th Bayu Rural Agricultural, Sports, Cultural and Tourism Consumption Season, and is also part of the 2026 Farmers’ Harvest Festival theme activities. The event attracted crowds from across Chongqing and Sichuan Province, serving as a vivid practice of rural revitalization.

Basketball takes centre stage

The highlight of the day was a rural basketball tournament, popularly known as “Village BA”. This year, a record 16 teams participated in the tournament. They came from several places in Sichuan and Chongqing, including Kaijiang County in Sichuan, and Wanzhou District, Kaizhou District, Zhong County, Fengjie County and Yunyang County in Chongqing.

The playing facilities have also been upgraded. Ping’an Town has built a new standard indoor basketball court, which can seat nearly 1,000 people. It is equipped with a large screen, professional lighting and timing devices, allowing matches to be held in all weathers.

Culture and handicrafts on show

At Ping’an Square, a cultural relics exhibition was held to display Yunyang’s revolutionary history and local heritage protection achievements. A traditional crafts market was also very popular, where skilled artisans demonstrated and taught pottery making, drum making, bamboo weaving and straw rain cape crafting. Parents and children could work together to make simple traditional crafts, experiencing the charm of traditional culture up close.

A rural celebration lasting several months

The event runs from April to October. Upcoming activities include middle-aged and senior basketball friendship matches, a university student basketball league, a cherry-picking festival and a trail-running race.

Ping’an Town is located at the center of Yunyang, Wanzhou and Kaizhou, with convenient transportation. By integrating sports, culture, tourism and agriculture, the town is bringing new vitality and joy to rural life.
